The tradition of the old south is very prevalent in the story of A Rose for Emily. It is the tradition of the people of the town that forces them to hold Emily in a very high regard because her father was a civil war hero. The town may not want to hold her above themselves but they have to because of the code of duty in the old south. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Southern Tradition in A Rose for Emily" essay for you Create order Faulkner also uses the sense of the importance of privacy to great affect as the narrator hints towards knowing that there was some suspicious activity between Homer and Emily, like the fact that Emily gave no particular reason why she needed arsenic when she went to the druggist. There is also the tradition that people did not marry below their class in the old south and this shows when we learn that Emilys father had turned away a number of suitors for her because they were not good enough. It is also shown when Emily starts to form a relationship with a carpenter from the north, the townspeople are a bit shocked because of this. Some traditions from the old south have gone away like the sense of duty towards those of better class than you but some remain like the respect for privacy or the dont ask dont tell mentality. Faulkner uses very dark overtone or mood in the short story, A Barron would be in the center of the group. Presently we began to see him and Miss Emily on Sunday a fternoons driving in the yellow-wheeled buggy and the matched team of bays from the livery stable. This shows the flirtatious or coquettish nature of how Emily felt about homer even if homer didnt feel the same. Another word that might be used to describe the book is the word impervious, which is an adjective that means unable to be affected by. Emily could be described as impervious in the story, faulkner writes, Her voice was dry and cold. I have no taxes in Jefferson. Colonel Sartoris explained it to me. Perhaps one of you can gain access to the city records and satisfy yourselves.. Emily will not be affected by the town of Jefferson and does not allow the city to tax her. Finally Perverse is a word that one could use to describe the tone of the story. Perverse is a word that means showing a deliberate and obstinate desire to behave in a way that is unreasonable or unacceptable, often in spite of the consequences. in the final paragraph Faulkner writes Then we noticed that in the second pillow was the indentation of a head. One of us lifted something from it, and leaning forward, that faint and invisible dust dry and acrid in the nostrils, we saw a long strand of iron-gray hair.. This sh ows that Emily was presumably performing the perverse action of sleeping with the corpse of Homer. Burduck, Michael L. Another View of Faulkners Narrator in A Rose for Emily. Originally published in The University of Mississippi Studies in English, vol. 8, 1990, pp. 209-211. Burduck writes in his article about the possibility that the narrator of the story is a woman instead of a man which is usually presumed. He writes about how reading the story knowing the narrator is a woman gives an interesting perspective of the story. He writes about how the men in the town do not care as much as the women do about emily and her story and so the narrator is trying to make sure that the story is not forgotten. Thomas Klein . The Ghostly Voice of Gossip in Faulkners A ROSE FOR EMILY. The Explicator, Volume 65, Number 4 (July 2007), pp. 229-232, Klein writes in his article about the narrator and the choice to avoid identifying his or her own gender. He writes that the use of the plural we or how the narrators use of The men or The women in telling the story of Emily hides the true nature of the narrators gender. Klein also writes about how the narrator avoids showing favoritism to either the women or men of the town as well as avoiding favoritism to the generations of the town as in the younger generation that tries to force emily to pay her taxes and the older generation that gave her exemption. Nick Melczarek . Narrative Motivation in Faulkners A ROSE FOR EMILY. The Explicator, Volume 67, Number 4 (September 2009), pp. 237-243, Melczarek writes about a perspective of looking at how faulkner uses the narrator not necessarily for psychological effect that is in theme with the perverse and horror nature o f the stary. Melczarek writes about the potential of the narrator to symbolize the way of thinking in the south and how the narrator may have known about the murder of homer and was complicit in that knowledge. Moore, Gene M. Of the Time and Its Mathematical Progression.. Studies in Short Fiction, vol. 29, no. 2, Spring 1992, p. 195. He begins by writing and summarizing the opinions of others that have read and written about the chronology of the short story. The examples of writing that moore quotes talk about how Faulkner destroys chronological time in his story Moore then goes to write about how the dates given in the short story are important to the chronology of the story and is important to understanding the story.

Essay on Layered - Writing Reflection - 945 Words

Writing a decent essay is as tedious, as nerve-racking, and as strenuous as constructing a layer cake from scratch. First you have to decide that you are going to tackle this feat, and that can be your biggest challenge, motivation. Then you must figure out what kind of cake batter you want to use. Collect all the ingredients to mesh together well, making one layer at a time. You throw all the layers together hoping that somehow they will come together to form a nifty design, but they don’t immediately. For now it is just a leaning tower of cake parts. So you start revising and modifying, adding toothpicks, trying to rectify the lean of the cake on one side. You coat the whole damn thing in icing, attempting to make it look better, but the†¦show more content†¦There was sturdy evidence on the type of man that Satan portrayed. He was a very ‘cunning’ and ‘charming’ man. Not only did Brennan blatantly state that he was charming, but his actions in the woman’s home were very smart and deliberate. This made my discourse about his swagger powerful and more concise. Paying more attention to detail in Brennan’s piece, I was able to pencil in another claim based on the color green. Unfortunately, the paragraph was not directly supportive of my thesis. The outburst of the paragraph seemed to throw the entire flow of the paper off balance; therefore it was immediately excised. The first layer of icing on my paper was intense; removing words, adding words, redefining sentence structures, and removing my trademark, awkward phrasing. The first to get revamped was the thesis. The original thesis led to questions and issues based on the word ‘hope’, that I did not address in the length of my paper. In order to remedy the situation, a minor phrase was cut and replaced with the actual supporting data. Next in my local revisions, were the long drawn out thoughts that needed to be simplified and broken down into different sentences. This occurred in almost every paragraph and wasted most of my time and exhausted much of my energy. For example, take the original sentence, â€Å"The woman from the article seems to learn from her chat with Satan that she is stronger than she gives herself credit for, that she can survive with herself and theShow MoreRelatedServing Ideas With Finesse By Adam Vanegdom1710 Words   |  7 PagesArt Essay: Serving Ideas wit h Finesse by: Adam VanEgdom â€Å"Art† has such power and influence not because of the beauty it possesses but rather the perception it evokes. Military Wear and Appearance Free Essays

In this essay I will describe the many requirements and expectations set forth in the army’s AR670-1. I will describe the importance of obedience to it and cite many of it’s detailed descriptions. I am writing this essay because I failed to meet the standards asked of me me by both these regulations, and my leadership. We will write a custom essay sample on Military Wear and Appearance or any similar topic only for you Order Now I accept the responsibility of my actions and will not let my failure recur, nor will I let my fellow soldiers repeat my mistake.Since my failure was in regards to grooming or personal additions to uniform, I thought it would be pertinent to cover these subjects most thoroughly, If any additional information is required of me I will add on to this. When a man volunteers for the army he agrees to follow a set of general and specific guidelines set forth by many men before him. These guidelines are expected to be met by every soldier in the military, whether thought to be stupid or mundane, every soldier will meet these standards or punishment will ensue. These rules are important to maintain the army’s tradition of excellence of dominance. We are the best at what we do, we have discovered a formula which produces greatness, and as such it should be followed. Part of this formula is the uniform code. Although simple, and easy to follow, soldiers(such as myself) may sometimes fall short of the knowledge required to maintain it. Some choose to completely ignore it. It is important to repeatedly answer the demands of AR670-1 to build a disciplined soldier, one who attends work everyday with the required materials and who acts like an army soldier. The army is required to have regulation 670-1 to hold soldiers to a higher standard than most by the way they wear a prescribed uniform and by their personal appearance. The vision of an American soldier is not one with long hair, dirty uniforms, and untamed facial hair. A soldier should look presentable and professional at all times. A soldier with a professional appearance includes wearing a uniform that fits the following description. Uniform that fits properly and not tight, clean and serviceable, along with footwear that is clean. Also, articles should not protrude from pockets or have a bulky appearance. The regulation provides guidance for all men and women in the army to keep this high standard of appearance. Army regulation does not just stop with the uniform, it also includes hair, nails, cosmetics, jewelry, religious articles, eyewear, tattoos, and ID tags. Although all of AR670-1 is important to follow, I will start with the army grooming standards, due to my failure to follow these set standards. When considering a change in hairstyle, as I did, it would be wise for anyone to review AR670-1 to prevent assignments such as this. On top of following these guidelines, consultation with ones leadership would be a smart measure.A general grooming standard is important to maintain certain uniformity within the military. Although many hairstyles are acceptable, they must be neat and conservative. Since it is impossible to address every acceptable hairstyle or whether it is considered conservative or not, it is the responsibility of leaders at all levels to demonstrate proper judgment on the enforcement of the standards. For men, it must have a tapered appearance, not fall over the ears, eyebrows, or touch the back of the collar, except for the closely cut hair on the back of the neck.Men are not authorized to have dreadlocks or cornrows. Hair that is clipped closely or shaved to the scalp is permitted. Sideburns will be neatly trimmed and not flared and will not exceed the lowest part of the ear opening. Mustaches are permitted. However, the mustache will be neatly trimmed and tapered. No portion of the mustache may cover the lip line or exceed the corners of the mouth. Men are also permitted to wear wigs or hair pieces to cover up natural baldness or physical disfiguration. If one chooses to dye, tint, or bleach their hair, they must do so with good judgment and avoid colors that alter natural appearance. If a soldier has a hair type that prevents it from being parted, they may choose to cut a part into their hair. The part will be a straight line, neither curved nor slanted. Soldiers will not cut designs into their hair or scalp. Womens hairstyles must be symmetrical, and not extend over the edge of the eyebrows or past the collar. No hairstyles can interfere with the proper wear of headgear or protective mask. Males must be clean shaven. Fingernails are to be clean and trimmed.Cosmetics are prohibited for men, but females are authorized to wear them as long as they are conservative and complement the complection. My conclusion on my hairstyle after full review of AR670-1 is: Although my haircut was within the limit of the prescribed standards as far as length, and was tidy around the ears and neck, it is considered an unecessary and extreme hairstyle and therefore wrong and prohibited. My actions were wrong because not only did I not follow the set rules of army regulation but I failed to recognize or ask my leadershipnif my current hairstyle would be permitted for duty. This is important because if everyone in the army were to act on impulse, as I did, it would project an image of Religious articles can be a touchy subject for some who are extremely devoted to their faith. However, AR670-1 lays out strict rules for these items and requests for accommodations will not be entertained. Any religious articles are permitted as part of any uniform as long as they do not appear gaudy or extreme as described in my previous paragraph about hairstyle. The article must be concealed and must not hinder proper wear of the uniform in current use.The article must not prevent the soldier from performing his or her duties at anytime during the duty day. Ordinary jewelry is also permitted however different rules apply. Jewelry is limited to a wristwatch, wrist ID, and a total of two rings (a wedding set is considered one ring). Unless specifically prohibited by the commander for safety or health reasons, these items may be worn at the discretion of the soldier. Where bracelets are concerned only MIA/POW ID bracelets may be worn on the wrist and only one bracelet is permitted per wrist.Other than the above items no jewelry may appear exposed at any time during the duty day, this also includes pencils and pens. Body jewelry is not allowed while on an army instalation or while on an army controlled area, whether on duty or not. Eyewear is not considered jewelry so it has it’s own guidelines and rules and they are as follows: conservative civilian prescription eyeglasses are authorized for wear with all uniforms. All conservative sunglasses are authorized when in a garrison environment, except for during formatins and while indoors and when health or safety reasons determine otherwise.Eyeglasses or sunglasses that have lenses or frames with initials, or designs are not authorized. Lens color must be traditional gray, brown, or dark green. Soldiers are not permitted to attach chains, bands, or ribbons to the eyewear. Eyewear restraints are permited only when required for safety purposes. Finally, like any other item, eyewear may not be hung to or attached in any way to the uniform. Another prevalent issue that produces many questions about regulation is the allowed location or image or type of tattoo authorized in the army.To begin, tattoos anywhere on the head, face, or neck (above the class A uniform collar) is not acceptable. Any tattoo that is extremist, racist, or sexist in any way is strictly prohibited no matter the location. Tattoos that are grossly offensive or shock the moral sense because of their vulgarity or filthy intent are also prohibited. A tattoo that discriminates against either sex is also not permited anywhere on the body. In conclusions in regard to tattoos nothing sexist, racist, extremist will permited. Question: Discuss about the Impacts of Use of Smart Services in Governments. Answer: Introduction The Impact of Using Smart Services on Customers at Governments. The advancement in technology has improved service delivery in the world. The otherwise involving services offered by organizations, governments are now done in a smart way; technologically. Service delivery is faster under smart service platforms and hence saving time. A smooth delivery increases a customers experience and this is an added advantage to the organization. In UAE, the Ras Al Khaimah state government has adopted the smart services in service to its citizens (Rahman Ahmed, 2016, 5-7). The state has joined many others in the country which have also implemented the smart service delivery programs ensuring efficiency in the governmental interactions and service delivery to the esteemed citizens according to Zawati and Dweiri, (2016) According to Thawani, (2014), quite many global governments have unleashed digitized survive delivery to citizens over the past few decades. Digital service is the preffered service delivery for these governments. The smart service offered by the Ras Al Khaimah government are hosted in its portal; ww.rak.ae (Criado, Sandoval-Almazan Gil-Garcia, 2013, pp.319-326). The services offered are categorized into three main groups, Personnel Services (G2C), Corporate Services (G2B) and the Government Services (G2G) (Dameri, R.P., 2014, pp. 45-88). The Personnel Services (G2C) includes the services by the government to the citizens, visitors and all the residents of Ras Al Khaimah in general. Since this is the easiest and efficient way to reduce funds leakage the application for national identification cards, passport application, driving license application among many other smart services are the digital services introduced. The Corporate Services (G2B) services include service delivery to the businesses and investment parties. The latter has made it possible to get all the government required services for any investor or business cooperate in the state of Ras al Khaimah as stipulated by Abdelhafez and Amer, (2014). Moreover, the government of Ras Al Khaimah state offers interdepartmental services within the government in its G2G smart service platform. According to sources, the Ras Al Khaimah has been able to deliver many services efficiently (Zawati, Dweiri, 2016, pp. 881-885).Its over and over again been the preferred service delivery even for businesses. The impacts of the use of smart services are numerous. The use of smart services by government saves the customers time (Dameri, R.P., 2014, pp. 45-88). We can never under estimate the power of a satisfied customer. The smart services are characterized by a huge investment of governments money to achieve a faster service delivery to the citizens, businesses and the intergovernmental service delivery according to Gil-Garcia Helbig (2014). The smart services delivery has enhanced saving the citizens and businesses otherwise limited time and hence enhancing delivery in their respective duties (Dameri, R.P., 2014, pp. 45-88). The Ras Al Khaimah state online portal has made abolished the traditional queuing method that has been in use for many years and hence the time that has been used in queuing for the government services can be used elsewhere in respective nation-building duties as stated by Gil-Garcia Helbig (2014). Besides saving time for the customers, the smart service program by the government of Ras Al Khaimah state has made it easier for the citizens as well as the businesses and parastatals to get informational updates on the government precedence. The Ras Al Khaimah state government uses social media like Twitter on updating its citizens and other subscribers on the state of the government and hence communicating the major governmental issues there according to Kim, Park, and Rho, (2015).This information in most cases is accurate since there is no interferences with the outside party hence reliable. The social media platforms incorporation into the smart services of the governments, especially the governor of Ras Al Khaimah state has seen faster information sharing about the issues concerning the state (Criado, Sandoval-Almazan Gil-Garcia, 2013, pp.319-326).Also this adaptation saves the government any leakages of funds from its citizens when applying for any document. The Ras Al Khaimah state smart services initiative has improved efficiency in service delivery (Thawani, S., 2014, pp.1-10). The otherwise complicated services delivery to the citizens, businesses and the government parastatals is now easier in the Ras Al Khaimah state as in most states of the United Arab Emirates according to (Thawani, S., 2014). The smart service programs in the governments; globally, are based on powerful servers capable of serving numerous customers at a go and hence the elimination of the analog way of delivering services that have been on the run for many years before the growth and maturity of the technology. According to Abdelhafez and Amer, (2014), the improved efficiency in service delivery is key to saving the customers valuable time. Mansour, (2015) has it that the smart service delivery program by the Ras Al Khaimah state government has seen an improvising of the services offered through the feedback system. According to Mansour, (2015), the online governmental service has a feedback system where the customer gives his or her views on satisfaction with the mode of service delivery offered. The latter has improved the quality of the services offered by the Ras Al Khaimah state government which implements the suggestion made by its customers on the smart service delivery portals (Abdelhafez and Amer, 2014, 2). The e-government customer get quality services from the Ras Al Khaimah state government (Al-Jenaibi, B., 2016, pp.20-51). The quality of services offered in the Ras Al Khaimah has improved since the upgrade of the mode of service delivery in the UAE to match that of developed countries. The smart service delivery is automated and hence no bias or unfairness in the delivery. The customers of the e-government services are happy that they can be served in a more efficient manner compared to the analog service delivery characterized by manual labor (Rodrigues, Sarabdeen, and Balasubramanian, S., 2016, pp.18-39) Globally, the normal way of service delivery by the government to the citizens and other parties has been faulted over many reasons according to Samara and Raven, (2014). The governments clients have cited lack of transparency in the way the governments does respond the citizen's service mandate. A doubtful citizen means there is untrustworthiness to the government. According to Karmakar, (2015), the implementation of the smart service in Ras Al Khaimah state, and UAE, in general, has improved the otherwise compromised transparency in service delivery. The e-government smart service customers have trust in the government; thanks to this tremendous step in the modernity of the Ras Al Khaimah state government service delivery. The smart services offered by the Ras Al Khaimah state are reliable. Abdelhafez and Amer, (2014) argues that the government of Ras Al Khaimah has made its services reliable in all aspects, to the customers; including the governmental parastatals, business parties as well as the citizens. The services are available at a click of a button at any time and any part of the world through the internet connection. The servers can work round the clock compared the phased out mode of service delivery involving employees who work on office hours as captured by Karmakar, (2015). Reliability on the mode of service delivery in Ras Al Khaimah has therefore saved the customers a lot of time. Moreover, the implementation of smart service delivery in Ras Al Khaimah has seen the global connectivity of this state to other parts of the globe. The global connectivity enhances the governments to compare themselves in terms of better and efficient delivery. Also,It enables them to be in a position to upgrade the services whenever appropriate. Citizens from other countries or states who wish to visit Ras Al Khaimah can apply for business permits, or work permits online before visitation of this state and hence the global connectivity. We want to make the information our customers may need.locally and globallyaccessible to match with those in all emirates of the UAE and international levels. The General Manager of the RAK eGovernment Authority is quoted. The Ras al Khaimah emirate government, therefore, peruses global competence in reliability in its service delivery to its customers. The Ras al Khaimah emirate smart service portal has offered all the basic services to the customers. Educational, health and career services are available in the rak.ae gate and hence customer satisfaction. The inhabitants of this emirate are quite happy with the new mode of service delivery by their government. Personal documents renewal is now as fast and efficient as imagined (Rodrigues, Sarabdeen, and Balasubramanian, S., 2016, pp.18-39). Business licenses are available on the government's website upon demand the manager of the government services stated in the programs launch. The website for the Ras al Khaimah emirate has therefore enabled efficient service delivery to the interested business parties in this emirate and beyond. The tourists intending to visit Ras Al Khaimah emirate have access to the reliable information to plan for their trip. Tourists can apply for residence as well as visitation visas before their visit for them to explore tourist sites and heritage, recreational centers and convenient shopping places stated the e-government services manager. The Ras al Khaimah emirate smart service delivery system includes the website that has all the tourist destinations in the country and hence very useful to tourists and those intending to visit the country as captured by Rodrigues, Sarabdeen, and Balasubramanian, S., 2016. Evidently, the Ras al Khaimah emirate government service delivery portal has been very useful to many parties, locally and globally according to government Al-Jenaibi, B., (2016). Karmakar, (2015), states that the online service delivery systems have enabled many people to cut down their expenditures associated with the payment for the basic services. For instance, the launch of the Ras al Khaimah emirate smart service delivery system has seen the citizens pay for the most basic services like water bills, electricity bills efficiently. According to sources, the citizens of Ras al Khaimah emirate had to go to local banks and que for such a petty transaction water bill payment. The establishment of the online service delivery has seen the otherwise complicated transaction, involving the comparatively large amount of transaction cost become cheaper according to Karmakar, (2015). The RAK government is dedicated to developing smart services to easy the citizens from the burden of processing transactions for their bills, said Eng Ahmed bin Saeed Al Sayyah in the smart services development initial states. More importantly, the online services delivery system of the Ras al Khaimah emirate has eased the long channels involved in the official procedures according to Abdelhafez and Amer, (2014). The authority aims at cutting the procedures and time taken in governmental office consultations to an almost instant processfrom almost anywhere in the world The e-government smart services manager was quoted. Evidently, the office consultations in government offices, globally, are quite tedious and involving procedurally. The Ras al Khaimah emirate government has therefore set an interactive system where its customers; the citizens, tourists, business parties as well as the parastatals can enquire on almost every government service instantly (Thawani, S., 2014, pp.1-10). Stairway To Heaven By Led Zeppelin Essays - Jimmy Page, Rock Music

Stairway To Heaven By Led Zeppelin The song I chose for analysis is Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. I have looked over the lyrics of the songs and come to the conclusion that the song is about the Apocalypse. It is about how people would react if they knew that the world was about to end. I have broken down the meanings in almost every verse, which I will show later on in this assignment. The mood of the song is slow and depressing during the time in which they are waiting for the end to come. By the end of the song it gets faster and livelier to show happiness and hope. The song had several poetic devises such as internal rhyme, onomatopoeia, and most importantly metaphors. The only onomatopoeia was the word humming which was used once and is also a metaphor. The internal rhymes were one that sounded like rhymes when sung. "When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed", "And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune", "And a new day will dawn for those who stand long", "Your head is humming and won't go, in case you don't know", and the last being "Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know." The most important poetic devise in the song was the metaphors. My idea of the message in the song was based on the following metaphors. There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold. People who think all that glitters is gold are fools. So this lady is a fool to think she can buy her way in to heaven. There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure/ ?Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings. / In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings, / Sometimes all our thoughts are misgiven. The two meanings are telling you about the metaphors used in the song. With the bird singing by the brook the first thing people think is that the bird is at peace, but animals sense trouble and when the bird panics it sounds like singing. This proves how our thoughts are misgiven. There's a feeling I get when I look to the west, / And my spirit is crying for leaving. / In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees, / And the voices of those standing looking. The feeling is loss of hope because he's watching the sun go down in the west, the end will come at sundown. His spirit is crying because he has lost hope. The smoke through the trees is the world being destroyed and the voices of those who stand looking shows that nobody can do anything but watch. And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune/ Then the piper will lead us to reason. / And a new day will dawn for those who stand long/ And the forests will echo with laughter. The Piper represents Sin. The Pied Piper, who led children to their deaths is the metaphor used here. The piper or Sin will lead them to their deaths. The tune is the meaning of life. A new day will dawn for those who stand long, means those who don't follow temptation will see a new day come, and their happiness is the laughter echoing through the forest. If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now, / It's just a spring clean for the May queen. / Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run/ There's still time to change the road you're on. The spring clean for the May queen is the end coming and cleaning the human race off the face of the earth. The two paths are temptation and righteousness and in the long run if you take temptation you can still change to the way of god. Your head is humming and won't go, in case you don't know, / The piper's calling you to join him, / Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know/ Your stairway lies on the whispering wind. The humming is the wind and the lady who is trying to buy her way to heaven, hears the wind blow. The wind represents her chances of getting into heaven being blown away, her stairway is blown away with the wind. And as we wind on down

Religion in Brazil Essay Example

Religion in Brazil Essay Example Religion in Brazil Essay Religion in Brazil Essay Brazil, or  officially the  Federative Republic of Brazil is the largest country in both  South America  and the  Latin America  region. It is the worlds fifth largest country, both bygeographical area  and  by population over 190 million people   It is the largest  Lusophone, or portugese-speaking,  country in the world, and the only one in the Americas. Religion plays a major role in the lives of most of the people in this largest South American county. Here are some interesting Brazil facts: Around ninety percent of this population identifies with some sort of religion,   making it more religiously inclined than any other South American country. Only around 1% of its population do not believe in a God, or a supreme being in some form or another. The Brazilian Constitution of 1889 declared that there was no  official  religion in Brazil, so everyone was free to believe as they liked. That’s why, just like the USA, Brazil can practice freedom of religion according to the newest constitution that was adopted in 1988. Brazil’s religious make-up can be traced to the diverse groups of people who came in various forms – natives, invaders, immigrants, and slaves. In terms of Christian religions, the main churches in Brazil are: Catholic Protestant Methodist Episcopal Pentecostal Lutheran Baptist Its religious inclination is also extremely diverse, despite the fact that around three-quarters of the population claim to be Roman Catholics. In fact, there are more Catholics in Brazil than in any other country in the world. The Portuguese brought with them, not just the language (this  medical tourism   hub is the only  country  inSouth America  not dominated by Spanish), but also Roman Catholicism. Catholicism was introduced to Brazil when the European settlers arrived with the aim of ‘civilising’ the local native people. They built churches and brought religious leaders into the country to teach young and old alike the doctrines of Catholicism. During the 19th century, Catholicism was made the official religion of Brazil. This meant that Catholic priests were paid a salary by the government, including them in the political affairs of the country. As such, Catholicism became an integral part of the management and administration of Brazil and its people. Many of the Brazilian festivals are based on the Catholic religion. Protestantism is the second largest branch in Brazil religion. Those who are Christian but not Catholic are considered Protestant. Only about 15% of Brazilians claim to follow a Protestant faith of some kind. There are many branches of Christianity in Brazil. Among them the most popular are Baptist, Methodist, Neo-Pentecostalists, Old Pentecostalists, Presbyterian, Anglican and Episcopal Churches. Other Protestant beliefs and offshoots that make up smaller portions of Christians are Kardecist, Lutherans. The largest population of Protestants are found in North, Central-West and Southeast Brazil. The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints  is the third largest Brazil religion. They boast a membership of over one million one hundred thousand with almost two thousand congregations and 309 family history centers. Five temples are stretched across Brazil. Jehovahs Witnesses  is the fourth largest religion in Brazil. They have over 700,000 members. Eastern Orthodox  makes up the fifth largest religion in the country with over 500,000 members that came over with their Armenian, Greek, Lebanese, Russian, Syrian and Ukrainian immigrants in the past one hundred years. When the Portuguese landed in Brazil, the  country  was populated by native  Indians who had their own traditional religious practices. In the regions just north of Bahia, indigenous tribes still practice the Catimbo religion; a sect that is heavily influenced by spirits, shamanism, and omens. When African slaves began to be imported into Brazil, they brought with them their religious practices, many of which involved invoking the gods through chants or dances. Over time, these Afro Brazilian religious practices began mingling with Catholic and Protestant influences to create synthetic religions. Some of the more  popular  exponents  include  Candomble, which has a huge following in urban centers like  Rio de Janeiro, and Umbanda. Spiritism is also one of the significant, although minor, religions in Brazil. Spiritistic practices are based largely on ancient Amerindian cultures as well as the influence of the African cultures and customs that were introduced centuries ago, when slaves were brought over to Brazil from the ‘Dark Continent’ of Africa. Such tribes and cultures were particularly inclined towards the worship of spirits since they had not been influenced by more structured notions of creation, which hailed from a reliance on the teachings of Bible. The religions or belief systems found in Brazil other than the ones above include: * Muslims * Methodists * Episcopalians * Buddhists * Ayahuasca * Afro-Brazilian religions Xango, Batuque, Umbanda, Tambor de Mina * Hinduism * Islamists * Shinto believers * Judaists * Rastafarian * Brazil Religion Makes the Country Unique Every part of the country has been uniquely shaped by the religion practiced there. Celebrations, festivals, traditions, and customs are all practiced due to some religious or spiritual beginnings and purposes. For example, During the Holy Week before Easter, several Brazilian cities will celebrate Corpus Christi by artistically creating mosaics or carpets on the streets using mediums like flour, flower petals, shavings of wood, and coffee grounds. The results are stunning and a memorable way to celebrate this holy time of the year. The music, dancing, chanting, singing, or other activities all stem from one faith or another and make the people who they are. The entire culture of the Brazilian people is intertwined with religion or faith in some way. No wonder theyre such an amazing, diverse, and wonderful people!

A Comparative Consumer Behaviour of Audi, BMW and Mercedes in Thailand Essay

A Comparative Consumer Behaviour of Audi, BMW and Mercedes in Thailand and UK - Essay Example Research shows that ?21.1 billion UK automobile market is in constant conflict with France and Italy (Done, 57). This makes it the second biggest European country in the automobile market after Germany. The African continent also has a number of states that are rated among this trading in luxury cars, led by South Africa. However, limitations in sales are based on the total business area or by local market situations, in addition to customer preference. As such, the general prosperity car market is undergoing social change with luxury brands appearing less primitive, less diverse and more comprehensive with the state of being improving. Because of this, there is increased competition between different car brands resulting into brand identity. As a result of continuous improvement in the car products, the outward look of an automobile plays a significant role in influencing the consumers’ decisions. Premium marquees like BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz should develop qualities and values that show transforming social attributes, which affect clients psychologically, so that they retain their profitability in the automobile industry. This paper will look at consumer behaviour differences between Thailand and the UK, considering three brands of cars (BMW, Audi, and Mercedes Benz). Methodology What we Did For purposes of defining clients’ sensitivity towards luxury automobiles, a set of ideas variables that potential consumers of wealth cars might need was developed with permission from car dealers (Audi, Jaguar, Mercedes, Lexus and Volvo). Transformed Worldviews Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Transformed Worldviews - Research Paper Example These values had been instilled in one’s persona early during one’s stage of child development and growth. It was handed down from generation to generation as documented among the Ten Commandments: â€Å"Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour† (Holy Bible, New International Version, 2011). Thus, the verse stressed the importance of not telling lies and adherence to the truth. The modernist’s view is similar to one’s personal viewpoint. One actually gained knowledge of the truth from this view. In the reading entitled â€Å"Idolatry of Novelty† written by Lynn Gardner, the author emphasized that truth is actually anti-thetical with the acceptance of alleged false teaching: â€Å"'Doing truth' (or 'acting truly') is an Old Testament expression used especially when fidelity between two parties is the subject. Whether spoken or expressed in action, the truth is never to be dissociated from love." "Grace and truth" came through J esus Christ (John 1:14, 17)† (Gardner, n.d., pp. 15-16). Likewise, truth, as asserted here, reverts from the source in the Holy Bible: as emanating from Jesus Christ; and the teachings relayed, communicated, and documented through the Bible attests to the need to adhere to ethical, moral, and legal standards which conform to truth, based on facts and reality. In addition, Packer (1993) averred that truth in the Bible means â€Å"stability, reliability, firmness, trustworthiness, the quality of a person who is entirely self-consistent, sincere, realistic, undeceived. God is such a person: truth, in this sense, is his nature, and he has not got it in him to be anything else† (p. 127). Therefore, God is the perfect embodiment of truth because in His Divinity, He was noted not be have any ability to lie... Different people gain knowledge about God through diverse modes and medium. From the material from class texts and discussion, one acknowledges that people learn about God from stories, narrations and testimonies of family members and relatives; from theology or religion courses; through the scriptures, specifically through the teachings in the Holy Bible; through attendance of religious practices and obligations (masses for the Catholics); and through personal interests and intentional pursuits. Knowing about God comes from information gathered or collected from external sources or from the experiences of other people who shared the information to others. As emphasized, â€Å"â€Å"knowing† God is of necessity a more complex business than â€Å"knowing† another person, just as â€Å"knowing† my neighbor is a more complex business than â€Å"knowing† a house, or a book, or a language. The more complex the object, the more complex is the knowing of it†. The critical aspect of the knowing about God is the contention that â€Å"knowing them is more directly the result of their allowing us to know them than of our attempting to get to know them†.

The History Of Women And Science Research Paper

The History Of Women And Science - Research Paper Example One of the earliest women known in science was Hypatia and was a mathematician and an astrologer. She lived in Alexandria in the 4th century. She followed her father who was a professor of mathematics and philosophy. As states, students flocked into her classes to listen to her lectures. Hypatia wrote several mathematical texts. However, the texts that she wrote were destroyed when the library at the Alexandria University was sacked and burnt down. Hypatia was well respected for her contributions to science. However, she was murdered for her participation in political struggles between the Neo-Platonists and the Christians. When the modern science emerged in the 17th century, the institutional base of science shifted. Several societies were established during the seventeenth century, such as the Royal Society of London and the Academie des Sciences in Paris (Schlesinger 25).However, women were not allowed to participate in these societies for a period of about 300 years. Evidence fro m the seventeenth and eighteenth century reveals that a significant number of women were active in science and were waiting to take their place in the new institutions of science. For instance, Maria Winkelmann who was a German Philosopher was one of those women. Of all the people who were working in the fields of science, in Germany, only 14 percent were women. During that time, it was problematic for women to perform activities while in the field of science.  For instance, Winkelmann was forced to publish her astronomical work.

Emirates Airlines: Key Performance Indicator Analysis

Emirates Airlines: Key Performance Indicator Analysis In this simulation you chose a sector to operate in (budget, mid-range or luxury). What have you learned about these sectors as a result of your experience in this simulation? What would you have done differently at the beginning of the simulation and why? What would you have done differently to be more successful during the simulation and why? In this sector we operated as Emirates Airlines in mid-range as a view that there is a huge population in the sector and even if circumstances favours even budget and luxury passengers would opt for mid-range. In this sense during the start we sold 3 flights which we had as it doesnt had head room and toilets and leased three flights for the operation. We started 1st quarter selling tickets for 35 cents and its a mistake that we changed to luxury airline selling for 48 cents right after the 1st quarter. As this would have changed our target customer and all the operation should also been changed accordingly. We incurred heavy expenses on Promotion and advertisement which hadnt created any impact. There were complaints from customer for poor food services which we realised and started allocating cost for quality and services. High concentration would have been made on maintenance and market research which is the important factor in competitive industry like Airline. There are certain factors which can be focused and done differently at the beginning of the stimulation: Strategic Approach: we did not have any strategic approach when we started our simulation. And that is the reason we had made unreasonable decisions like shift to luxury and sales of aircraft. if we had a strategic approach we would have sold the flights when there is huge profit and avoided lease payment to be added in the expenses. Also we would have shifted to luxury at least after the 4th quarter when we had a good customer base and market. Hence instead of having a single strategy, it would have been better if we had followed a mixture of strategies in terms of pricing, marketing and services. Systematic Approach: there is no systematic approach at the beginning of the simulation. We blindly sold the flights without ascertaining the financial position and brought new flights during 6th quarter which we wrongly numbered and resulted in the purchase of another 3 flights when the company is already in a loss and thereby realised and sold a flight at 7th quarter. The fuel, flight operation and maintenance cost got drastic increase and because of the increase in the number of passengers we did not suffer huge loss. Hence if we had a systematic approach from the beginning we would have reached a good profit. Pricing: A price cue is defined as any marketing tactic used to persuade customers that prices offer good value compared to competitors prices, past prices or future prices (Rao, 2010: 150); at first we sold the tickets for 35 cents as mid-range airline and suddenly hiked the price to 48cents as luxury airline. We did not have idea about the impact and did not take steps to offer service according rather invested in promotion and advertisement. We realised it as mistake and felt that the pricing is an important factor in attracting customers only during 5th quarter and reduce the price to 40 cents and only after that we were about to increase the number of customer. Hence if the pricing factor has given significant importance on the start of the simulation, the company would have escaped from losses. Actions would have been taken during the stimulation for success: Proper maintenance of aircraft in order to avoid fine from FAA. Good system for customer reservation system to be flexible, fast and user-friendly. Strong investment in market research to enable sales forecast and market situation analysis. Proper training and quality to make the customer feel satisfied and get the luxury in food and other services. Good systematic maintenance of accounts in loan interest repayment, lease payment, depreciation in order to have a clear view of the actual profit. Strategic allocation of expenses on promotion and advertisement, sales forecast and social performance Strategic approach on pricing and increasing the number of sales person according the number of flights operated. What were the KPIs you used in running your airline and did they change? Critically appraise the value of the information you had available to you in the results packs during the simulation. How did you use this to affect your decision making? The below are the Key Performance Indicator we as a team of Emirates Airlines believed at the beginning of the simulation which we tried following throughout the quarters but some were forced to reframe it due to companys situation and response. Thus once an organization has analyzed its mission, identified all its stakeholders and defined its goals, it needs a way to measure progress toward those goals. Key performance indicators are those measurements which help to define and measure progress towards organizational goals (Geoff, 2009: 419) Flight Operation: The important KPI we followed is in terms of flight operation. We believed that achieving 80% of maximum mileage per day would definitely yield a profit. As flights can be flew only with the maximum passenger and also includes the number of flights used. Hence it can achieve all in one KPI. We achieved this until quarter5 reaching 70% in each but it got changed due to purchase of 3 more flights without knowledge which made the company to focus on the reduction of expenses and deviated from the miles operating. Promotional and sales forecast: Emirates Airline team believed that high investment in promotion, advertisement and sales forecast can lead companys success. In terms of sales forecast, our KPI was in a correct way. But in terms of promotion and advertisement we changed and reduced the level of expense as the company started to incur loss. Financial Perspective: we thought revenue is an important factor for an airline company to be successful as there will arise uncertain circumstances due to weather or fuel price, hence had a KPI to increase the revenue through Fares. We started a s mid-range and attracted maximum customers and shifted to luxury charging huge fare as a KPI of increasing the revenue. We are badly affected till 5th quarter because of this factor and then reduced the pricing. The information we got through the value packs and incident feedback was very helpful in refining our performance and take corrective measures. Not only in terms of finance but also in terms of flight operation and service, the index feedback gave us the measures for improvement. The company was in a tough situation after the shift to luxury airline, where the incident feedback helped us to identify what was going wrong. The below are the some changes we effected from the information we got through the value packs, Increased the number of flights and number of flight routes. Decreased the ticket fares in order to increase the number of passengers. Concentrated on cabin services to increase the quality service to the passengers and reduce complaints. Taken measures and allotted funds on aircraft maintenance to avoid accidents and escape from fine. Got knowledge that the huge loss of the company is due to the purchase of 3 additional flights resulted from mistake in numbering in the software. Came to know that a flight was unused hence sold the flight to avoid maintenance expenses. We felt the importance of passenger service and allotted more fund towards it. Giving due consideration to theory, evaluate how a merger or acquisition might have changed your outcomes and the way you operated during the simulation? What additional implications would there have been for your company? Merger and Acquisition are often used inter-changeable concepts while merger is the combination of two companies in order to form a new company and Acquisition is a companys purchase of another company where there is no formation of new company (Scott C. Whitaker, 2012). Merger and acquisition have a common goal of attaining synergy. There are certain factors that should be taken care while going in for merger or acquisition as it results in cultural risk, business, employees and customer retention risk. These risks may not be applicable if Emirates would have planned the merger or acquisition in the initial stage that is before 4th quarter but if it is after that the above said risks should be taken care of. Hence it is evident that the nature of company to which going to be merged or acquired should be taken into account that it should be similar in business and should be stronger in operation as emirates are operating in a tough situation. There are many advantages for company to go in for a merger or acquisition. We as a emirates airlines can merge or acquire a financially strong airline whereby we become economically strong and can reduce the cost of capital (Donald M. DePamphills, 2009). In emirates during 5th quarter, we had a NIL balance of cash flow after the overdraft loan hence during such situation merging with company with good cash flow will be a potential decision. Also there will be a positive impact on the stock price especially for companies like emirates where we had our stock price in negative numbers. Not only in financial terms, merger and acquisition also helps in terms of operation synergy. For e.g., if we Emirates team go for a merger during our mid-quarter with a company which is technologically strong we would have had a chance for competitive advantage and fast growth platform (Scott C. Whitaker, ). We would have not made a mistake of unsystematic approach in buying a flight during our 6ht quar ter by which we suffers a heavy loss. There are major operating cost involved in terms of Airlines they are fuel, maintenance, interest expenses, lease amount, promotional activities, market research, taxes and so on. These costs would have been spread between two companies after merging. Merger and acquisition are also helpful to use the assets and skills of the other companies merging or acquiring with. We as Emirates team lacked in terms of allocation of expenses and proper maintenance of aircraft. Hence merging with a managerial strong company would have helped us to move in the right path. It helps in improving the operating efficiency with a combined activity of the merging firms thereby can enjoy the market power. This is called market power theory. With this the company can have a control on the pricing and suppliers and also can have customer base. As a team of Emirates Airlines only in the 1st quarter we were able to make a profit. It may be because of the sudden shift to luxury airlines which made us to suffer from continuous losses till 6th quarter. Our stock price also went on negative price. Hence merger or acquisition during the mid-quarter would be the better decision as it would have reduced the cost and share the total cost. We also had a reduction of pricing on 5th quarter which can be avoided when we had merger with our competitor. We lacked in many operation areas like customer satisfaction, aircraft maintenance and proper allocation of expenses, hence merger and acquisition would have been potential at early stage. Appraise how successful your company was in your industry. Were your relative success / failure due primarily to your analysis and diagnosis or the choices and decisions you made? Which models and theory did you consider when participating in the game and how did this help you? Planning, executing and monitoring are the key aspects for a company to be successful. And in industry like Airline where there are ample numbers of risks, it is important that the firm follows a strategic approach. We as a team started to operated Emirates airlines as mid-range where in the first quarter we are able to have a good level of passengers and thereby revenue. We did not have a view on the level of risk in shifting to luxury range all of a sudden in the second quarter and increased the fare at a higher rate. Only during fifth quarter we came to know the importance of price factor and reduced the fare. The team did not understand that shifting to luxury range should be accommodated with high quality service to be competitive. We felt its importance from the incident report at the time when the company is already in loss. To my knowledge the company started off well but faced tough situations and failures and also attained the survival stage where it can reach a decent prof it in the next quarters. We had a systematic approach to some extent and made many innovative measures like online reservation system which is a success to us, but the decision what we made to buy a flight when we were in deficit lead to failure. Also we are not managerial approach as we wrongly numbered and the software bought additional 3 flights which added to a further loss. We had a clear view in allocating resources for aircraft maintenance, but because of the above mistakes we made during the simulation, we were unable to allot adequate resources for maintenance which lead to engine failure and fine from FAA. At the beginning of the simulation we used resource dependency theory (Aldrich, 1977) where we believed the company can be affected to some degree with its external environment. Hence we took measure to influence the environment. Our external environments are customers, public and the airline industry. We thought investing heavily in promotion and advertisement would definitely create competitive advantage and a brand image among the customer where a hike in the fare will become a hidden factor. Hence during the second quarter we allotted $40000 on advertisement and shifted to luxury airlines with fare of 48cents. But only during the subsequent simulation we felt that there is no relation between the promotion and competitive advantage in a highly completive airline industry and understood the importance of cost and service factors. Hence we reduced the price and concentrated on quality and training. We also started concentrating on cabin services and passenger services with the rise of customer complaints which came to our knowledge through incident feedback. We as a team felt the importance of strategic approach during the simulation. During the end of the quarter we were clear about the strategies to be followed and we were sure that our company will make a good profit if it has another two quarters as we could find the changes in stock price with our corrective measures. The simulation gave us a vast experience about the concept of risk management, strategic approach and resource allocation. We also felt the importance of group dynamics in running a successful business.

The Significance of the Letter in The Scarlet Letter Essay -- Scarlet

The Scarlet Letter: The Significance of the Letter  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Adultery has been around almost as long as people. It has maintained a harsh punishment, from banishment to death, but in the Puritan world of colonial America (from about 1620-1640), its punishment may have been worse than either. In The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hester Prynne is a lonely Puritan woman who commits infidelity with a preacher and has a son from the untruthful union. To punish her for this act, the council of leaders forces her to wear a large â€Å"A† on her bosom, to let all know what she has done. She is not put to death immediately because her husband is missing and may or may not be alive. The letter â€Å"A† has different meanings for different people throughout the book. To Hester, the townspeople and Pearl the letter â€Å"A† takes on varied meanings during the course of the book. Hester Prynne is required by Puritan dictate to wear the â€Å"A† as long as she lives in the village. Hester feels the letter to be a sign of ignominy. As she stands on the scaffold at the beginning of the story, she feels intense embarrassment and shame at having to wear the letter in public. She even drifts into a faux-reality before returning to the shame of the letter. â€Å"She turned her eyes downward at the scarlet letter, and even touched it with her finger, to assure herself that the infant and the shame were real. Yes! - these were her realities.†(57) This is the first and least intense feeling she has for the letter. The â€Å"A† was intended to produce a deep sense of shame and disgrace, to dissuade other possible sinners. She realizes what the â€Å"A† is intended for, and stays true to that philosophy for a while. Her shame excludes her from society and normal life. S... ...even today, with the suffering and pain humans inflict on each other. Hawthorne beautifully pieced together this masterpiece over two hundred years after the time period took place. Hester Prynne did not let shame come in the way of loyalty or love, and this is the greatest victory of all. Works Cited and Consulted Baym, Nina. Introduction. The Scarlet Letter. Responsibility of Employers for Acts of Employees

Another employee of your paper mill, Hotspur, steals a shipment of wood pulp for your company to impress you with initiative to secure new resources for free. Unfortunately, he runs down a pedestrian crossing properly in the crosswalk on his way back to your factory, injuring her. If the pedestrian sues your company can there be a recovery for the injury? Discuss your answer. The employee who stole the shipment will cause the company to be responsible for the recovery for the injury. I believe that this is a case of the doctrine of respondeat superior. This is Latin for â€Å"let the master respond†. The employee is an agent of the company therefore the employer is responsible for their actions. Even though the employer had no idea of knowing what the agent was going to do, the company is still liable for his/her actions. As noted in the text, the following example was given, â€Å"If a truck driver, the employee of a delivery firm, negligently runs a red light and injures a p edestrian, the owner of the truck is liable for the injury† (Hallowell & Miller, 2012).In addition, the employee could be terminated because of his/her actions while being employed as an agent. The employee could be terminated because an injury or possible death occurred that was not what the agent was contracted to do. The employee could also be prosecuted because the wood pulp was stolen. Even though it was an effort to impress the company it is still punishable by law because the goods were stolen, not free.

Why You Should Give Free Content To Your Readers

Why You Should Give Free Content To Your Readers Give it away give it away give it away give it away now. Give It Away, Red Hot Chili Peppers Thats four suggestions, in a row, to give something away. Surely the Chili Peppers are onto something you can apply to your blog. If you do a search on with the word free, you get a fair number of results. What are our blog giveaways and other free stuff  here at ? WordPress plugins Headline creation tools Email newsletters and courses calendar training An endless number of infographics, e-books, and worksheets Craziness. But not really. Why You Should Give Free Content To Your Readers #blogging via @JulieNeidlingerThe Power Of  Blog Giveaways Free content builds goodwill, and people love to share free stuff with their friends and followers on social media. Free content is portable. E-books and other downloads are portable. Youre not demanding that people stay on your site to read and access them. Regularly creating free content keeps you familiar with the act of being a creator. Jay Baer wrote about giving content away, and one reason he believes it is necessary is startling: Your audience expects it  now. By not having blog giveaways  on your site, you stand out in a negative light. Freebies have become so prevalent that even if it could be proven to be a negative tactic (which it really isnt), youd still have repercussions if you didnt offer something. #Blog giveaways are  so prevalent, its negative  if you dont give something away for free.4 Ways Blog Giveaways Will Help You Grow Your Audience Start by figuring out what your reluctant readers might need to convince themselves to open their wallet and buy. Chris Garrett, over at Copyblogger, discussed what blog giveaways  will do for you: 1. Build your network. Free content, such as an e-book that knocks peoples socks off, is how you build your network. This happens in two ways. First, your blog giveaway is so amazing it starts getting shared. Second, you mention others in your e-book and pretty soon they are sharing it. 2. Prove youre an expert. You can say youre an expert until youre blue in the face, but sooner or later readers are going to expect you to back it up. Your blog posts do most of that work for you, but if you can offer free resources that supplement and expand on those posts (e-books, worksheets, etc.), then youre giving readers the proof they need before trusting you enough to buy what youre selling. 3. Compare yourself to your competition. Ever noticed how blog copy within an industry starts to sound the same? Its easy enough to be inspired (i.e. copy) others in an industry, but if you create unique resources, you set yourself apart from the competition. 4 ways #blog giveaways help grow an  audience: networking, expertise, comparison, doorway.4. Create doorway content. Giving away something of value is how you get your readers hooked. Just as pro guest bloggers advocate doing your best writing for your guest posts instead of saving it for your blog, you need to do the same for your blog giveaways. It has to be addictive. However, if your best content is free, be sure that any content you sell isbetter. In other words, free content cant be junk, but if youre going to create content and put a price on it, it has to be even better. These reasons are particularly important for new bloggers, or bloggers who are still working at getting a serious readership. You have to show that you have the chops. Once you build a name for yourself, you dont have to give as much away. People already know what you offer is going to be good. 4 Types Of Blog Giveaways That Really Work What might you give away?  Knowing what to give away isnt a trick, but the answer is going to vary for each blogger. 1. Something fun that arrives regularly. Theres a reason subscription services have become popular- people are signing up for boxes to be delivered each month with things like makeup, food, or toys for their dog. We like a little surprise to look forward to. You can do the same with your freebies. Designers, consider giving away a monthly printable design pack. I regularly look forward to several designers who send out links to fun print-cut-assemble projects each month. 2. Something that promotes continued education. Marketers, provide training resources that are actually unique and not a rehash of everything out there already. Writers, give your readers writing help- from writing prompts to handy guides for fleshing out a plot. Give away something fun, educational, reputation-building, and ongoing. #blogging3. Something that gives you a reputation. While on a quest to find or create the perfect weekly planner, I stumbled upon the chronodex. Developed by Patrick Ng, the chronodex was his answer to planning. Its become hugely popular among planner fanatics, and a search on the chronodex will reveal people sharing their versions and how they use it. All of this from something Ng gave away for free. That chronodex created a positive reputation for Ng for those obsessed with planning and organization. If he were to begin selling additional expansions to his chronodex, Ive no doubt people would pony up the money. (Ng does not charge. He gives everything away.) 4. Something you can continue to build on. That chronodex? That is a free item that people look forward to every year because it naturally needs to be re-issued annually. If you can create blog giveaways  that you can build on, you create a loyal audience. You can also create items that can be purchased that add onto the original giveaway. Ng continues to provide updates, and he also highlights how other readers have been putting his chronodex system to work in their lives. He is turning something he gave away for free into a movement. How Much Is Too Much? Some are going to argue this point, butits possible that you can give away too much. The reason there is disagreement on giving things away is because some bloggers are approaching it purely from the viewpoint of marketing, while other bloggers are actually trying to make their living off of content. For example, a blogger who is building a reputation for being a marketing expert might think giving everything away is a great idea. They are focused on establishing a reputation, and the more valuable content they have out there, the better. A blogger who is building a business creating knitting patterns and instructions cant exactly do that. They need to sell the patterns. So how many blog giveaways  is too many? When might you pull back on giving away content? 1. You are trying to make a passive income. If, for example, you are hoping to make a passive income in which you will sell documents, content, downloads, etc., you need to be careful that what you give away doesnt have a negative impact on your sales. In this scenario, you ought to be giving away good content that shows you have the skills and potential for even better content, but you should not be giving away your best content. Thats for sales. 2. Youre using exclusivity as a driver for sales. Lets not forget about the power of exclusivity.  Exclusivity makes people want something, and it works in two ways: Not everyone gets in.  We like to know that we are part of a small group that made it in. We like knowing there are people who are not receiving this special knowledge because it makes our chances of success better. Think of a football game. When you are sitting in a crowd, standing up gives you a better, exclusive view. If everyone stands up, though, your view is no longer special. We like being part of what is special and exclusive both for how it makes us feel (important) and because we get a better view (imminent success). This requires a product that is so good, so clever, so desirable, such a status symbol, that people are frantic to get in on it. Everyone gets in, but only through specific channels.  While no one is turned away, they have to meet certain standards or requirements in order to participate. This helps weed out those who arent as dedicated, willing to pay, willing to work, and so on. It makes the group who has succeeded at getting in know that everyone else is as serious as they are. This requires a product that is excellent, people have to be able to find it easily enough, and you have to have a method for keeping control of how it spreads (think DRM). We like #blog giveaways to feel  something  special,  exclusive, and important. If your sales model is exclusive training for members, you simply cant give everything away, even for an email address. 3. You built a strong reputation and want to bank on that. There is room for a shift in how much you give away over time if your goal was to build a reputation before reigning in your freebies. After a while, it might be time to ask a bit more for your free content. After a while, you might take that popular freebie and put a price tag on it. For example, Copybloggers famous blog post on how to write magnetic headlines now redirects not to the easy-access blog post, but to a section of their site in which they encourage you to sign up for their other exclusive content. That content is still free, but by using the same URL and pointing it to a landing page which funneled readers directly into a sales funnel, they made that popular content work a little harder for them.  It isnt as easily accessible. They now want an email address, and they expose you to the sales pitch of a landing page. Give away enough to prove your other content is worth the purchase. Give away enough to give your customer a chance for small success using your program or content so they trust you enough to make a purchase. Dont give away the cow. Give away about 98% of the cow. That remaining 2% is what will get someone to buy. When it comes to content, people will pay for certain things: Exclusivity. People will pay for the opportunity to be part of something others arent. Sounds cruel, but its true. Detailed guidance. People will pay for detailed how-to instruction that helps them get their job done. Nothing vague, please. Be specific, and give people the know-how to achieve a concrete result. Custom content. People will pay for content created specifically for them. Instead of a generic report on how to get more traffic, theyll pay for a custom report that takes their specific situation into account. Great experiences. People will pay for the opportunity to experience something worthwhile.

Process Paper on Relaxation

Process Paper on Relaxation Since some people may not know how to or do not have the time to relax in today's busy world, it is important for one to learn at least one technique of relaxation. Once simple technique that comes to my mind is a method a nun has taught her students for many years. Even her students can teach this simple technique.Step one tot his technique is to sit on a comfortable chair with hands flat on a desk or table while having the forefingers and thumbs touching one another. Step two, close your eyes and think. Step three, imagine a room with a door. This is your room. Make it any size, shape or color. You can choose the door to have lock on it or not. With a lock on the door, no one can break into space and you can leave your troubles behind the closed door.English: A hollow door with one face removed.Step four, open the door to view your room. Once it opens, you can decorate the room, as you like, with huge windows overlapping puffy white clouds or at the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean. Step five, think of the furniture, music and lighting. This is your room so make it the way you would like it to be. Imagine sitting on a big comfortable sofa or chair while listening to soft music or not. Have full light or no light at all in your room. Make this room your paradise where you can get away from all your worries, troubles, and hectic schedules. Finally, sit in your room for at least 10 minutes and think of only happy experiences. Business Communication Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Business Communication - Essay Example lobal character, and therefore one of the main tendencies since the end of the 20th century is the integration of all companies connected with production and use of chemicals all over the world into a common and unified system of environment care. The concept of chemical safety for the 21st century was created in 1992 during the International UNO Conference in Rio de Janeiro. The issue of the impact that chemicals produce upon the humans and the nature has been researched by the scientists, and the results of their findings are astonishing. Here are just some very basic facts: Among the multiple factors harbouring the health of our people an important place is taken by chemical pollution of some areas of the country. That is why toxicology emerged as the science studying different aspects of the impact of chemicals upon people and nature. Some chemicals, including industrial waste that have been emitted into the environment can generate mutations, and it is sometimes extremely hard to forecast what kind of mutation will the toxication with the chemical evoke; Among the most widespread effects of chemicals upon the organism of people and animals are the damage of immune and nervous systems which can lead to serious problems with health and can even produce effect upon further generations; Ecological problems are inseparably connected not only with the health issues but also with the economy. As Brown has it: â€Å"Living standards are falling in many countries due to environmental degradation†¦. Many people have long understood, at least intuitively, that continuing environmental degradation would eventually exact a heavy economic toll†. (Brown 1993, pg 16) Ecological control of chemicals in the objects of the environment is therefore extremely important. There are certain approaches that allow to dispose industrial waste without harming the nature, and these should be introduced into the everyday practice all over the globe. The prospects of developing this

Usefulness of the annual report for investment decision making Essay

Usefulness of the annual report for investment decision making purposes - Essay Example Certain investors have gained knowledge in accountancy and they use the figures provided in annual reports before coming up with an investment decision. Others use information that is related to organization’s financial conditions and does not contain figures but only facts to make investment decisions. Annual reports and their structures have changed over time to facilitate both kinds of investors. Now annual reports contain information about profit and loss, cash flows and overview of the finances of organizations. The length of these reports has increased as the required number of details has grown. Annual reports contain statements provided by management (Bartlett 1997). All these kinds of information were not previously a part of annual reports. Investment decisions are not only based on analysis provided by management and directors of an organization; the profit and loss information provided through annual reports is superior while making investment decisions. These statements are highly important for those who are literate in accountancy. Individuals having literacy in accountancy are investment analysts who provide information to investors on how well a company has performed and how well it will perform in future, and through this analysis, investors make their investment de cisions. ... is characteristic of annual reports increased the uncertainty amongst investment decision makers because they had no idea how organizations would perform in future and what initiatives the organization would take to make the company operate successfully in future years. Due to lack of information about future activities, investment decision makers used to be dependant on old data and their confidence in their investment decision used to lack confidence in success. This led to the introduction of management’s statements within annual reports. In these statements management provides insights into what future steps the management is going to take to make the company successful in future. This information helped investors and investment decision makers make investments on the basis of future operations, and these investment decisions lacked uncertainty. For example, during 1996, a study conducted by Abrahamson and Amir (1996) proved that annual reports containing the presidentâ₠¬â„¢s letter are a useful insight for the investor trying to predict future performance of the organization. Similarly, a study conducted by Bryan (1997) states that the management of a company is required to disclose information about future operations through annual accounting reports of their organization, and these disclosures help investors in assessing whether the firm will make profit in future and align investment decisions accordingly. Information that profit and loss statements provide is quite limited, for example: Rogers and Grant (1997) argue that financial statements are limited to providing information regarding only one quarter of a company’s operational period. On the contrary, information provided by management gives insight into a longer period of time including past performance
